Coffey today announced it has moved to appoint its successful General Manager of International Development Asia Pacific into the growing European market.

Group Executive of International Development, Glen Simpson, said Kit Black has been appointed General Manager for Coffey’s operation in Europe.

“Kit led the Asia Pacific operation to become one of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs’ largest contractors in the international development sector,” Mr Simpson said.

“Kit is one of the most experienced general managers in bilateral development assistance. He has more than 30 years of experience in project management, consulting and senior management roles.

“Kit’s demonstrated client focus and strong managerial expertise will match well with this next chapter in our European operation. Kit will drive efficiencies within the business and help the European team deliver greater value for money to clients, including those entering an era of growth such as the UK Department for International Development.”

The European operation, based in London, UK, has grown in size and scope over recent years and today implements more than 120 projects worldwide. Kit’s appointment is part of Coffey’s on-going commitment to expand the technical and managerial offering.

In addition, Sam Spurrett has been appointed General Manager for Coffey’s international operation in Asia Pacific. Mr Simpson said the two general managers have been working side by side for more than six years.

“Sam is a young and highly effective manager who has helped position Coffey as a leader in the sector,” Mr Simpson said. “Sam has worked in international development for more than a decade, at provincial government level in Papua New Guinea, as well as delivered on clients’ development priorities throughout Asia Pacific.

“Coffey Asia Pacific has always worked in close partnership with both donor governments and the governments of the countries we work in. Sam has proven his ability to develop and maintain relationships with a wide range of individuals and I’m certain he will both strengthen the partnerships we have built over decades as well as build new ones,” Simpson said.

Mr Simpson also noted the Australian Federal Government’s appetite for ideas and discussion about Australia’s foreign aid program.

“Sam will ensure Coffey plays a role in informing the current debate, both with the Australian Government and the business community,” he said.
