Sunday 23rd June is International Women in Engineering Day
On this day we celebrate and acknowledge the outstanding achievements of women engineers throughout the world. This is a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of women in engineering and focus attention on the amazing career opportunities available to women in the industry.
Currently only 12% of the engineering workforce are women and of those qualified only 51.2% of those actually work in the engineering profession. There are many influencing factors that contribute to this gender imbalance that have been well publicised and documented over the years. Recommendations are plenty but at the end of the day achieving gender diversity and inclusion in the workplace takes a commitment from us all: employers, business leaders, managers, employees, governments and the engineering profession. While the industry has come a long way, there is still a way to go to achieving a gender diverse workforce.
At Coffey we salute our women engineers as they inspire the next generation of young girls who want to explore a career in this exciting industry. Let’s hear what our engineers have to say!
