On the International Day of Disaster Reduction we acknowledge the people of Fiji have faced a significant number of natural disasters over the years – most recently tropical Cyclone Evan in 2012.

Following the cyclone, the Fiji Community Development Program, which is managed by Coffey on behalf of the Australian Government, provided humanitarian assistance to community service organisations to assist affected families and communities.

Since then the program has brought together government and Civil Society Organisations with the intention of maximising coordination efforts to prepare for and respond in the aftermath of any natural disaster.

The team provides training in practical and consistent disaster risk management messages which are communicated broadly in preparation for the Fiji cyclone season, helping to support Fiji communities with an aim to reduce the impact of disasters on the residents of Fiji.
