In the lead up to the Fiji cyclone season, an Australian Government-funded community-based project is providing training to better prepare for, and respond to natural disasters.

The Fiji Community Development Program has brought together government and Civil Society Organisations with the intention of maximising coordination efforts to prepare for and respond in the aftermath of any natural disaster.

The training also provides practical and consistent disaster risk management messages which will be communicated broadly in preparation for the Fiji cyclone season.

Following the devastation caused by tropical Cyclone Evan in December 2012, the Australian Government, through the Fiji Community Development Program, was one of the first agencies to provide immediate relief through the funding of Civil Society Organisations to provide coordinated assistance for affected families.
